Nach einem internationalen Open Call wurde ERBA unter 97 Bewerbungen für die BAU Residency 2026 ausgewählt. Die residency fand im Rahmen des Projekts Pastoral Twilight statt.
ERBA, gegründet von Philipp Kolmann (AT, 1989) und Suzanne Bernhardt (NL, 1988), ist ein mehr-als-menschliches Kollektiv, das Geschichten, Ökologien und kulinarische Praktiken miteinander verwebt, um Fürsorge mit Orten und Ritualen neu zu denken. Ausgehend von der Überzeugung, dass Landschaften lebendige Archive sind, würdigt ihre Praxis Pflanzenwissen, die Solidarität verschiedener Lebensformen und die subtilen Rituale, die Beziehungen über Zeit hinweg tragen. Durch Projekte, die von der Wiederbelebung traditioneller Konservierungstechniken bis hin zur Pflege von Obstgartenkulturen reichen, schaffen sie ortsspezifische Interventionen – gemeinsame Mahlzeiten, kollektive Fermentationen, geflochtene Unterstände –, die den Ökotonen zwischen Wald und Lichtung, Hof und Wiese, Vergangenheit und Zukunft Aufmerksamkeit schenken.

Auf 1.350 Metern Höhe liegt der Weiler Aschbach – dort, wo die Almwiesen auf den Wald treffen. Wir begrüßten dort das Künstler*innenkollektiv ERBA (Philipp Kolmann und Suzanne Bernhardt) zu einer Residenz in der werkSTOTTschual.
Am 12. Juli von 10:30 bis 12:30 Uhr fand die erste öffentliche Veranstaltung der BAU Residency 2026 statt. Gemeinsam mit ERBA erkundeten wir bei einem geführten Spaziergang mit Förster Laurin Mayer die sich wandelnde Kulturlandschaft rund um Aschbach. Die Veranstaltung endete mit einer Granita-Verkostung in der werkSTOTTschual.
Während ihrer Residenz erkundete ERBA den Ökoton – den Übergangsraum zwischen Wald und Wiese – verstanden als Schwelle, um das Wohnen durch gemeinsames Gestalten, Essen und Bewegen neu zu denken. Am Saum verstand diesen nicht als Grenze, sondern als einen Raum der Begegnung, in dem unterschiedliche Elemente aufeinandertreffen, sich überlagern und verändern. Die Künstler*innen durchwanderten die Landschaft und entwickelten in einer textilen Arbeit neue Vorstellungen von Wohnen und Gemeinschaft. Über Geschmack und Geruch erzählten sie von ökologischen und kulturellen Veränderungen der Südtiroler Weidelandschaft und machten diese sinnlich erfahrbar.
Die Residenz von ERBA ist Teil des zweijährigen Projekts Pastoral Twilight: Initiatives for Rural Cultures, das in Zusammenarbeit mit ARE: Woods (Tschechische Republik) und Verpėjos (Litauen) realisiert wird.

After an international open call ERBA has been selected for the BAU Residency 2026 held as part of the Pastoral Twilight project.
Founded by Philipp Kolmann (AT, 1989) and Suzanne Bernhardt (NL, 1988), ERBA is a more-than-human collective that weaves together histories, ecologies, and cuisines to reimagine care through place and ritual. Rooted in the belief that landscapes are living archives, their practice honors plant wisdom, multispecies solidarity, and the subtle rituals that sustain relationships across time. Through projects ranging from the revival of ancestral food-preservation techniques to the cultivation of orchard culture, they create site-specific interventions—shared meals, communal fermentations, woven shelters—that attend to the ecotones between forest and clearing, farm and meadow, past and future.

At 1,350 metres above sea level lies the hamlet of Aschbach / Rio Lagundo, where mountain pastures meet the forest. We welcomed the artist collective ERBA (Philipp Kolmann and Suzanne Bernhardt) for the BAU residency 2026 at the werkSTOTTschual.
On 12 July, from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm, we hosted the first public event for the 2026 Residency cycle. Together with ERBA, we explored the ever-changing cultural landscape surrounding Aschbach / Rio Lagundo through a guided walk led by forest ranger Laurin Mayer, which concluded in a granita tasting at the werkSTOTTschual.
During their residency, ERBA investigated the ecotone between forest and meadow as a threshold for reimagining ways of dwelling through making, eating, and moving together. Their project Am Saum [At the Edge] is not about drawing a line, rather, about exploring a zone where different elements meet, overlap, and transform each other. Through walks across the landscape, the artists envisioned new forms of inhabitation, culminating in a textile work. Drawing on taste and smell, they will narrate ecological and cultural transformations within South Tyrol’s evolving pastoral landscape, making them tangible through sensory experiences.
ERBA’s residency is part of the biennial project Pastoral Twilight: Initiatives for Rural Cultures, developed in collaboration with ARE: Woods (Czech Republic) and Verpėjos (Lithuania).

Fondato da Philipp Kolmann (AT, 1989) e Suzanne Bernhardt (NL, 1988), ERBA è un collettivo più-che-umano che intreccia storie, ecologie e pratiche culinarie per ripensare la cura attraverso il luogo e il rituale. Partendo dalla convinzione che i paesaggi siano archivi viventi, la loro pratica valorizza la saggezza delle piante, la solidarietà multispecie e i rituali sottili che sostengono le relazioni nel tempo. Attraverso progetti che spaziano dalla riscoperta di tecniche ancestrali di conservazione alla coltivazione di culture legate ai frutteti, realizzano interventi site-specific – pasti condivisi, fermentazioni collettive, ripari intrecciati – che si dedicano agli ecotoni tra bosco e radura, fattoria e prato, passato e futuro.

A 1350 metri sul livello del mare si trova il borgo di Rio Lagundo, dove il pascolo incontra il bosco. Abbiamo accolto nella werkSTOTTschual il collettivo di artisti ERBA (Philipp Kolmann e Suzanne Bernhardt) per una residenza.
Il 12 luglio, dalle ore 10:30 alle 12:30, abbiamo ospitato il primo evento pubblico della BAU residenza 2026. Insieme a ERBA abbiamo esplorato il paesaggio culturale in continua evoluzione che circonda Rio Lagundo con una passeggiata accompagnatə dalla guardia forestale Laurin Mayer. L’evento si è concluso con una degustazione di granita presso la werkSTOTTschual.
Durante la residenza, ERBA ha esplorato l’ecotono tra bosco e prato – inteso come soglia per reimmaginare l’abitare attraverso la creazione, il mangiare e il muoversi in comune. Am Saum (Sul bordo) non consiste nel tracciare una linea, bensì nell’esplorare una zona in cui elementi diversi si incontrano, si sovrappongono e si trasformano. Gli artisti hanno attraversato il paesaggio e immagineranno nuove forme di abitare all’interno di un’opera tessile. Attraverso il gusto e l’olfatto racconteranno dei cambiamenti ecologici e culturali nel mutevole paesaggio pastorale dell’Alto Adige e li rendono sensorialmente percepibili.
La residenza di ERBA fa parte del progetto biennale Pastoral Twilight: Initiatives for Rural Cultures, realizzato in collaborazione con ARE: Woods (Repubblica Ceca) e Verpėjos (Lituania).
