Pastoral Twilight: Initiativen für ländliche Kulturen, ist ein internationales Projekt in Zusammenarbeit mit den Institutionen ARE: Woods (Tschechien), BAU (Italien) und Verpėjos (Litauen), die alle im ländlichen Raum tätig sind.
Das Projekt untersucht, wie die Gesellschaft eine regenerative Beziehung zum Planeten entwickeln, sich mit menschlich-tierischen Aktivitäten auf dem Land auseinandersetzen und experimentelle pädagogische Methoden aktivieren kann, an denen Menschen, Pflanzen, Tiere und Pilze beteiligt sind.
Durch die Untersuchung von Pastoralismus und pflanzlichem Wissen an der Schnittstelle von Kunst, Bildung, regenerativer Landwirtschaft und mehr-als-menschlicher Solidarität versteht sich Pastoral Twilight als Einladung, nach einer gemeinsamen multispezifischen Kultur und Bildung zu suchen. Gefährdete Praktiken werden dabei berücksichtigt, die mit der Sorge um das Land und Ernährungssouveränität verbunden sind.
Das Projekt umfasst ein internationales pastorales Treffen und eine Konferenz, Residenzen, Workshops, ein interdisziplinäres Waldsymposium sowie die Online-Publikation Liminal Animal.
Im Rahmen dieses Projekts veranstaltet BAU ein Residency-Programm in Südtirol. Im Sommer 2025 wurde die Künstlerin Eva Koťátková eingeladen, im Dorf Karthaus (Südtirol) zu leben und zu arbeiten. Dort entwickelte sie ein ortsspezifisches Projekt, das die Verflechtung der menschlichen und mehr-als-menschlichen Welt im Zusammenhang mit dem ehemaligen Kartäuserkloster im Schnalstal konzentriert.
Im Sommer 2026 ist nach einem Open Call das von Philipp Kolmann und Suzanne Bernhardt gegründete Kollektiv ERBA als Artist-in-Residence in Aschbach tätig. Weiler Aschbach verbringen und den Ökoton zwischen Wald und Wiese erforschen – als Schwelle, um das Wohnen durch gemeinsames Herstellen, Essen und Bewegen neu zu imaginieren.
Als Teil des öffentlichen Programms von Pastoral Twilight hat BAU die Künstlerin und somatische Trainerin Barbara Gamper eingeladen, einen zweitägigen Workshop mit Kindern und ihren Lehrpersonen der Montessori-Schule in Kohlern (Bozen) zu leiten. Dabei wird der über 20 Meter lange textile Fisch reaktiviert, den Eva Koťátková 2025 im Rahmen der Residency geschaffen hat. Unter dem Titel Becoming Fish, Becoming Ocean wird Gamper die Kinder durch Übungen führen, die auf das Atmen mehr-als-menschlicher Wesen abgestimmt sind. Ausgehend vom Fisch entfaltet sich eine kollektive Erkungund davon, wie Organe wie Herz und Lunge in ihren eigenen Rhythmen pulsieren, sich ausdehnen und zusammenziehen, wobei die Teilnehmenden eingeladen werden, diese Bewegungen durch kleine gemeinsame Choreografien zu verkörpern.
Im Juli 2026 findet in den Orlické Bergen in der Tschechischen Republik ein dreitägiges Symposium mit dem Titel “Grass Socialities” statt. Der Titel ist inspiriert durch die gleichnamig Forschungsarbeit der Anthropologin Elisabeth Tauber, die ebenfalls Teil des Programms sein wird.
Pastoral Twilight: Initiativen für ländliche Kultur wird durch die Europäische Union kofinanziert. Von der Europäischen Union finanziert. Die geäußerten Ansichten und Meinungen liegen jedoch ausschließlich bei den Autor*innen und spiegeln nicht notwendigerweise jene der Europäischen Union oder der Europäischen Exekutivagentur für Bildung und Kultur (EACEA) wider. Weder die Europäische Union noch die fördernde Stelle können dafür verantwortlich gemacht werden.
Das Projekt wird außerdem vom Kulturministerium der Tschechischen Republik, der Region Pardubice sowie der Autonome Provinz Bozen, Amt für deutsche Kultur unterstützt.
Pastoral Twilight: Initiatives for Rural Cultures
Pastoral Twilight: Initiatives for Rural Cultures is a two-year international project, a collaboration between art organisations ARE: Woods (Czechia), BAU (Italy), and Verpėjos (Lithuania), all of which work in a rural environment.
The project explores how society can have a regenerative relationship to the planet, engage in human–animal activity on the land, and activate experimental pedagogical methods involving people, plants, animals, and fungi.
By studying pastoralism and vegetal knowledge at the intersection of art, education, regenerative agriculture, and more-than-human solidarity, Pastoral Twilight serves as an invitation to seek common multispecies culture and education that take account of endangered practices connected with care for the land and food sovereignty.
The project includes an international pastoral gathering and conference, residencies, workshops, an interdisciplinary forest symposium, and the online publication Liminal Animal.
Within this framework, BAU hosts a residency programme in South Tyrol. In summer 2025, artist Eva Koťátková was invited to live and work in the village of Karthaus / Certosa (Alto Adige / Südtirol), developing a site-specific project, exploring the interconnectedness of the human and more-than-human worlds, focusing on the historic Carthusian monastery in Val Senales.
In the summer of 2026, following an open call, the collective ERBA, founded by Philipp Kolmann and Suzanne Bernhardt, is artist-in-residence in Aschbach / Rio Lagundo, exploring the ecotone between forest and meadow as a space for reimagining dwelling through shared practices of making, eating, and moving.
As part of the public program of Pastoral Twilight, BAU has invited artist and somatic trainer Barbara Gamper to lead a two-day workshop with children and their teachers from the Montessori School in Colle (Bolzano / Bozen), reactivating the textile fish—over 20 meters long—created by Eva Koťátková for the Residency in 2025. Titled Becoming Fish, Becoming Ocean Gamper will guide the children through exercises attuned to the breathing of more-than-human beings, taking the fish as a point of departure and unfolding into a collective exploration of how organs such as the heart and lungs pulse, expand, and contract in their own rhythms, inviting participants to inhabit these movements through small, shared choreographies.
In July 2026 a three day symposium will take place in the Orlické mountains in the Czech Republic titled “Grass Socialities”. The titled is borrowed from antropologist Elisabeth Tauber, who will also be part of the program.

Pastoral Twilight: Initiatives for Rural Cultures è un progetto internazionale di due anni, frutto della collaborazione tra le istituzioni artistiche ARE: Woods (Repubblica Ceca), BAU (Italia) e Verpėjos (Lituania), tutte attive in contesti rurali.
Il progetto esplora come la società possa instaurare un rapporto rigenerativo con il pianeta, impegnarsi in attività uomo-animale sul territorio e mettere in atto metodi pedagogici sperimentali che coinvolgano persone, piante, animali e funghi.
Attraverso lo studio del pastoralismo e della conoscenza vegetale all’incrocio tra arte, educazione, agricoltura rigenerativa e solidarietà oltre l’umano, Pastoral Twilight rappresenta un invito a ricercare una cultura e un’educazione multispecie comuni che tengano conto delle pratiche in via di estinzione legate alla cura della terra e alla sovranità alimentare.
Il progetto comprende un raduno pastorale internazionale e una conferenza, residenze, workshop, un simposio nel bosco interdisciplinare e la pubblicazione online Liminal Animal.
All’interno di questo contesto, BAU organizza un programma di residenza in Alto Adige. Nell’estate del 2025, l’artista Eva Koťátková è stata invitata a vivere e lavorare nel paese di Certosa (Alto Adige / Südtirol), dove ha sviluppato un progetto site-specific che esplora l’interconnessione tra il mondo umano e quello non umano, concentrandosi sullo storico monastero certosino in Val Senales.
Nell’estate del 2026, a seguito di un bando pubblico, il collettivo ERBA, fondato da Philipp Kolmann e Suzanne Bernhardt, sarà in residenza ad Aschbach / Rio Lagundo, esplorando l’ecotono tra bosco e prato come spazio per reimmaginare l’abitare attraverso pratiche condivise di creazione, alimentazione e movimento.
Come parte del programma pubblico di Pastoral Twilight, BAU ha invitato l’artista e somatic trainer Barbara Gamper a condurre un workshop di due giorni con i bambini e i loro insegnanti della Scuola Montessori del Colle (Bolzano), riattivando il pesce tessile – lungo oltre 20 metri – creato da Eva Koťátková per la Residenza del 2025. Intitolato Becoming Fish, Becoming Ocean, Gamper guiderà i bambini attraverso esercizi in sintonia con il respiro di esseri più che umani, prendendo il pesce come punto di partenza e sviluppando un’esplorazione collettiva di come organi come il cuore e i polmoni pulsano, si espandono e si contraggono secondo i propri ritmi, invitando le e i partecipanti a vivere questi movimenti attraverso piccole coreografie condivise.
Nel luglio 2026 si terrà nei Monti Orlické, nella Repubblica Ceca, un simposio di tre giorni dal titolo “Grass Socialities”. Il titolo è tratto dall’antropologa Elisabeth Tauber, che parteciperà anche al programma.
