Künstlerin
Barbara Gamper (*1981, UK/I) ist eine italienische interdisziplinäre Künstlerin aus Südtirol mit Wohnsitz in Berlin. Sie arbeitet mit Bewegung, Somatik, Performance, Video, Audio-Storytelling und Textilien.
Ihre Forschung konzentriert sich auf die Politik der Verkörperung (politics of embodiment) und zielt darauf ab, durch somatische Bewegungsformate in Kunst, Bildung und Aktivismus dekoloniales und queer-feministisches Denken (und Praxis) zu fördern.
Somatische Erkundungen sind ein wesentlicher Bestandteil von Barbaras täglicher Praxis. Sie hinterfragt dabei internalisierte Muster der Sozialisation und erweitert die Erfahrung des Körpers über die Haut hinaus. Sie betrachtet den Körper als eine poröse, fluide Form in ständiger Wechselbeziehung mit menschlichen und nicht-menschlichen Materialitäten und Ökologien. Barbara nutzt Bewegung (Somatik) als eine generative Form der Fürsorge und als Werkzeug für persönlichen und strukturellen Wandel.
2023 schloss sie ihre Ausbildung in somatischer Pädagogik an der Somatischen Akademie in Berlin ab. Sie studierte zeitgenössischen Tanz in Berlin sowie zeitgenössische Kunst in London, wo sie von 2006 bis 2020 lebte.
Gamper wirkte an zahlreichen künstlerischen Projekten im Bereich Performance, Video und Musik mit, darunter Tanztheater-global, SDNA und Südelectronic. Zudem war sie an Gruppenausstellungen und Festivals beteiligt, unter anderem bei Shunt und The Place (London), OPA – On Performance Art @ BIOS (Athen), der Whitstable Biennale, der Biennale Gherdëina u. a.
Im Mai 2026 wird Barbara in Zusammenarbeit mit BAU den zweitägigen Workshop „Becoming Fish, becoming Ocean“ mit Schüler:innen und Lehrpersonen der Montessori-Schule in Kohlern (Bozen) durchführen und dabei den über 20 Meter langen textilen Fisch reaktivieren, der von Eva Koťátková für die Residency 2025 im Rahmen des Projekts Pastoral Twilight geschaffen wurde. Ausgehend von diesem Element wird sie die Teilnehmenden durch Übungen anleiten, die sich am Atem mehr-als-menschlicher Wesen orientieren, und so eine kollektive Erforschung der Rhythmen von Organen wie Herz und Lunge durch kleine, gemeinsame Choreografien ermöglichen.
Im Jahr 2022 leitete sie im Rahmen des Projekts Caldera einen Workshop zur somatischen Bewegung und erforschte dabei die Gemeinsamkeiten zwischen dem menschlichen Körper und dem von Pflanzen.
Im Jahr 2016, im Rahmen von Welcome Bees! lud Barbara Gamper zum Performance Workshop Rock Star Bees für Kinder 6+ ein.

Barbara Gamper (*1981, UK/I) is an Italian interdisciplinary artist from South Tyrol based in Berlin, working across movement, somatics, performance, moving image, audio story telling and textiles. Her research centers on the politics of embodiment seeking to advocate for decolonial and queer feminist thinking and practices through somatic movement workshop formats in art, education and activism.
Somatic exploration is an integral part of Barbara’s daily practice, challenging the internalised patterns of socialisation and expanding the body’s experience beyond the skin. She explores the body as a porous, fluid form in constant interconnection with human and non-human materialities and ecologies. Barbara sees movement (somatics) as a generative form of care and tool for (inter)personal and structural change.
In 2023 she completed a three-year programme in Somatic Pedagogy at the SomaticAcademy in Berlin. She previously studied contemporary dance in Berlin and Visual Arts in London where she lived from 2006-2020. She has been involved in numerous artistic projects since 2006, working across performance, video, and music (including dance theatre internationally, ssDNA, and Südelectronic). She has participated in group exhibitions and festivals such as Shunt and The Place (London), OPA – On Performance Art at BIOS (Athens), and the Whitstable Biennale, Biennale Gherdëina.
In May 2026, Barbara will collaborate with BAU to facilitate the two-day workshop „Becoming Fish, becoming Ocean“ with children and teachers from the Montessori School in Colle/Kohlern (Bolzano/Bozen), reactivating the textile fish—over 20 meters long—created by Eva Koťátková for the 2025 residency as part of the Pastoral Twilight project. Starting from this element, she will guide participants through exercises inspired by the breathing of more-than-human beings, fostering a collective exploration of the rhythms of organs such as the heart and lungs through small, shared choreographies.
In 2022, within the framework of the Caldera project, she led a workshop on somatic movement, exploring the commonalities between the human body and that of plants.
In 2016 the context of Welcome Bees! Barbara Gamper held the Performance Workshop Rock Star Bees for kids 6+.

Barbara Gamper (*1981, UK/I) è artista interdisciplinare italiana dell’Alto Adige, con sede a Berlino. Lavora con il movimento, la somatica, la performance, il video d’arte, lo storytelling audio e i tessuti.
La sua ricerca si concentra sulla politica del corpo (Politics of Embodiment) e mira a promuovere pensieri e pratiche decoloniali e queer-femministe attraverso formati di movimento somatico nelle arti, nell’educazione e nell’attivismo.
L’esplorazione somatica è una parte integrante della pratica quotidiana di Barbara: mette in discussione gli schemi interiorizzati di socializzazione ed espande l’esperienza del corpo oltre la pelle. A maggio 2026, Barbara collaborerà con BAU per tenere il workshop „Becoming Fish, becoming Ocean“ di due giorni con studenti e insegnanti della scuola Montessori di Colle (Bolzano), riattivando il pesce tessile lungo oltre 20 metri realizzato da Eva Koťátková per la residenza del 2025 nell’ambito del progetto Pastoral Twilight. Partendo da questo elemento, guiderà le partecipanti in esercizi ispirati al respiro degli esseri più-che-umani, dando vita a un’esplorazione collettiva dei ritmi di organi come cuore e polmoni, attraverso piccole coreografie condivise.
Nel 2022, nel contesto del progetto Caldera, ha realizzato un workshop sul movimento somatico, esplorando i punti in comune tra il corpo umano e quello delle piante.
Nel 2016, nel contesto di Welcome Bees! Barbara Gamper ha realizzato il workshop Rock Star Bees per bambini dai 6+.
