Allora & Calzadilla ist ein international tätiges Künstlerpaar mit einer rechercheorientierten Praxis, in der kulturelle, geopolitische und historische Schnittstellen und Komplizenschaften untersucht werden. Sie leben in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Im Juli 2019 stellte BAU drei Filme bei Kunst Meran unter dem Titel PARROTS, FERN AND OTHER FORMS OF BEING vor . Filme, die Perspektiven verrücken, indem sie Tiere, Pflanzen und andere Wesen in Beziehung zum Menschen stellen. Die vierzigminütige Vorstellung wurde mit dem Film The Great Silencedes puertoricanischen Künstlerduos Allora & Calzadilla eröffnet, in welchem ein Papagei von der Absurdität der Suche nach intelligentem Leben im All erzählt.
The artists Allora & Calzadilla collaborate since 1995 and live and work in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Through a complex research-oriented practice, Allora & Calzadilla critically address the intersections and complicities between the cultural, the historical and the geopolitical. In July 2019 BAU Agency presented three films at Kunst Meran | Merano Arte under the tilte PARROTS, FERN AND OTHER FORMS OF BEING – films that shift our perspectives by setting animals, plants and other beings in relation to humans. Chinese artist Zheng Bo exhibited Pteridophilia, a video featuring intimate physical relationships between people and ferns.
Allora & Calzadilla è una coppia di artisti attivi a livello internazionale con una pratica orientata alla ricerca, con cui esplorano interfacce e complicità culturali, geopolitiche e storiche. Vivono a San Juan, a Porto Rico. Nel luglio 2019 BAU ha presentato tre film al Kunst Meran/Merano Arte raccolti sotto al titolo PARROTS, FERN AND OTHER FORMS OF BEING. Film che stravolgono le prospettive, mettendo animali, piante e altre creature in relazione con l’uomo. La presentazione di quaranta minuti si apre con il film “The Great Silence” del duo portoricano Allora&Calzadilla, in cui un pappagallo racconta l’assurdità della ricerca di una vita intelligente nello spazio.
