Der Boden hat nicht nur eine metaphorische Bedeutung, sondern stellt auch ein komplexes Ökosystem dar, das buchstäbliche und materielle Erzählungen enthält: Er ist eine Struktur für Städte, ein Nährstoff für Pflanzen und kann Einfluss auf Technologien für die menschliche Ernährung haben.
Die im 19. Jahrhundert entstandene Bodenkunde untersucht die Komplexität dieses Elements und bezieht neben Geologen und Agrarwissenschaftlern auch Vertreter verschiedener Disziplinen ein, darunter Anthropologie, Wirtschaft und Kunst.
Soils Matter entstand im Rahmen von Scientific Visualisations: Impact on Practice [SVIP], einem interdisziplinären Forschungsprojekt, das zwischen 2019 und 2021 an der Freien Universität Bozen entwickelt wird und aus der Zusammenarbeit zwischen Forschern der Fakultät für Design und Kunst und der Fakultät für Agrar-, Umwelt- und Lebensmittelwissenschaften hervorgegangen ist.
Der Band versammelt Beiträge, die die Überschneidungen zwischen verschiedenen Wissensfeldern reflektieren und den Boden aus unterschiedlichen disziplinären Perspektiven erforschen.

As well as having metaphorical meanings, soil represents a complex ecosystem that carries literal and material narratives: it is a structure for cities, a nutrient for plants, and can influence technologies for human sustenance.
Soil science, born in the 19th century, studies the complexity of this element, involving, in addition to geologists and agronomists, figures from various disciplines, including anthropology, economics, and art.
Soils Matter was born within the framework of Scientific Visualisations: Impact on Practice [SVIP], an interdisciplinary research project developed at the Free University of Bozen/Bolzano between 2019 and 2021 and born from the collaboration between researchers from the Faculty of Design and Art, and the Faculty of Agricultural, Environmental, and Food Sciences.
The book brings together contributions that reflect on the intersection of different professional fields, exploring soil through different disciplinary perspectives.

La scienza del suolo, nata nell’Ottocento, studia la complessità di questo elemento, coinvolgendo, oltre a geologi e agronomi, figure provenienti da diverse discipline, tra cui l’antropologia, l’economia, e l’arte.
Soils Matter nasce nell’ambito di Scientific Visualisations: Impact on Practice [SVIP], un progetto di ricerca interdisciplinare sviluppato presso la Libera Università di Bolzano tra il 2019 e il 2021 e nato dalla collaborazione tra ricercatori e ricercatrici della Facoltà di Design e Arti, e della Facoltà di Scienze Agrarie, Ambientali e Alimentari.
Il volume raccoglie contributi che riflettono sull’intersezione tra diversi ambiti professionali, esplorando il suolo attraverso diverse prospettive disciplinari.
