Futurefarmers ist eine Gruppe, die 1995 gegründet wurde um künstlerische Arbeiten zu schaffen, die für den örtlichen und zeitlichen Kontext relevant sind. Die Gruppe bringt Künstler*innen, Designer*innen, Architekten*innen, Anthropolog*innen, Schriftsteller*innen und Landwirt*innen zusammen, die ein gemeinsames Interesse daran haben, einen Rahmen für den Austausch zu schaffen, der Momente des “Nicht-Wissens” entstehen lässt.
Futurefarmers nutzen verschiedene Medien, um Arbeiten zu schaffen, die das Potenzial haben, Logiken der “Gewissheit” zu destabilisieren. Sie dekonstruieren Systeme wie Lebensmittelpolitik, öffentliche Verkehrsmittel, Campusdesign und Netzwerke der ländlichen Landwirtschaft, um deren intrinsische Logik zu visualisieren und zu verstehen. Durch diese Demontage entstehen neue Erzählungen, die die Prinzipien, die diese Systeme einst beherrschten, neu konfigurieren. Ihre Arbeit bietet oft einen spielerischen Einstiegspunkt und Instrumente für die Teilnehmer*innen, um Einblicke in tiefere Untersuchungsfelder zu gewinnen – nicht nur um sich etwas vorzustellen, sondern um an den Orten, an denen wir leben, teilzunehmen und Veränderungen zu initiieren.
Futurefarmers Arbeiten wurden u.a. bereits im Whitney Museum of American Art, im New Yorker Museum of Modern Art, im Solomon R. Guggenheim, im MAXXI in Rom, Italien, auf der Sharjah Biennale, der Taipei Biennale, im Henie Onstad Museum, Oslo, der New York Hall of Sciences und im Walker Art Center ausgestellt.
Futurefarmers realisiert während ihrer Residency mit BAU und in Zusammenarbeit mit Hotel Amazonas, 2020-2021 das Wundermärchen The Chestnut, the Sea Urchin and the Tuning of the Bells. Am Projekt arbeiten für Futurefarmers Amy Franceschini, Lode Vranken und Livia Cahn.
Futurefarmers is a group of diverse practitioners founded in 1995, aligned through an interest in making work that is relevant to the time and place surrounding them. The group brings together artists, designers, architects, anthropologists, writers and farmers with a common interest in creating frameworks for exchange that catalyze moments of “not knowing”.
Futurefarmers use various media to create work that has the potential to destabilize logics of “certainty”. They deconstruct systems such as food policies, public transportation, campus design and rural farming networks to visualize and understand their intrinsic logics. Through this disassembly new narratives emerge that reconfigure the principles that once dominated these systems. Their work often provides a playful entry point and tools for participants to gain insight into deeper fields of inquiry- not only to imagine, but to participate in and initiate change in the places we live.
Futurefarmers work has been exhibited at the Whitney Museum of American Art, the New York Museum of Modern Art, Solomon R. Guggenheim, MAXXI in Rome, Italy, Sharjah Biennale, Taipei Biennale, Henie Onstad Museum, Oslo, New York Hall of Sciences and the Walker Art Center.

Fondato nel 1995, Futurefarmers è un gruppo di professionisti e professioniste uniti dal comune interesse ad operare secondo modalità che siano rilevanti per il tempo e il luogo che li circonda.
