Die Silberschmuckstücke in der aktuellen Ausstellung Silver Rights in der ar/ge kunst sind das Resultat einer engen Zusammenarbeit zwischen Mauro Millán, Silberschmied und Mapuche Aktivist und der italienischen Künstlerin Elena Mazzi. Ausgehend von ihrer Recherche in Pantagonien, das seit Jahren im Zentrum von Kämpfen, Ansprüchen und der Rückgewinnung der Territorien vom indigenen Mapuche Volk steht, vertieft die Künstlerin die enge Bindung, welche zwischen der indigenen Gemeinschaft und dem Land (mapu) besteht. Einen wichtigen Teil der materiellen Kultur der Mapuche bildet der aus lokalem Silber verarbeitete Schmuck.
Diese enge Bindung zwischen einem Rohstoff und dem eigenen Sein ist auch im Schaffen des Kunstschmieds Laurenz Stockner aus Brixen spürbar. Aus dem stillgelegten Prettauer Bergwerk bezieht Stockner seit fast zwanzig Jahren den Rohstoff Zementkupfer, eine dunkle erdige Substanz, die das Rohmaterial für seine Kupferschalen ist.
Nach der Besichtigung der Ausstellung Silver Rights mit den Kuratorinnen des Öffentlichen Programmes, lässt Laurenz Stockner die Teilnehmer*innen Teil eines faszinierenden Dialogs mit dem Material Kupfer werden, vom Ursprung zur Form im steten Austausch mit Wasser und Feuer: aufschmelzen, reinigen, schmieden, gießen, treiben.
Der Kupfer Workshop ist Teil der Workshop-Serie savoir-vivre, die ausgehend vom Ausstellungsprogramm konzipiert ist. Inspiriert von der Relektüre der Begriffe “savoir/pouvoir” von Gayatri Spivak, einer Mitbegründerin der postkolonialen Theorie, wird wissen nicht nur mit Macht, sondern mit können (pouvoir/ to be able to) verknüpft. Durch die Verbindung der beiden Verben, wird die Institution als Handlungsraum gelesen, wo unterschiedliche Fähigkeiten und Kompetenzen ein kollektives Wissen produzieren.
Laurenz Stockner, geboren 1971 in Brixen, ist Kunstschmied. Der gelernte Schlosser, hat ein Goldschmiedestudiums in Florenz absolviert und in Folge die Kunstschmiederei für sich als Ausdrucksform entdeckt. Im Jahr 2003 gründete er seine eigene Werkstatt in St Andrä. Seit 2004 hat er an zahlreichen Einzel- und Gruppenausstellungen im In- und Ausland teilgenommen.

The pieces of jewellery in Silver Rights, the current exhibition at ar/ge kunst, are the result of a close collaboration between silversmith and Mapuche activist Mauro Millán and Italian artist Elena Mazzi. Starting from her research in Patagonia, which has long been at the centre of conflict, claims and counterclaims to the territories of the indigenous Mapuche people, Mazzi deepens the close connection between this indigenous community and its land (mapu). An important part of Mapuche material culture is jewellery made from local silver.
This close connection between raw material and individual existence is also palpable in the metalwork of Laurenz Stockner from Brixen. For some twenty years the decommissioned mine at Prettau has provided Stockner with the raw material he uses for his copper bowls: a dark, earthy substance called cement copper. After visiting the exhibition Silver Rights with the curators of the Public Programme, Laurenz Stockner will engage participants in a fascinating dialogue with copper, from raw material through fire and water to finished form; smelting, purifying, forging, casting, working.
Laurenz Stockner (b. Brixen, 1971) is a blacksmith. Having trained as a locksmith he went on to study goldsmithery in Florence and subsequently made blacksmithery his chosen form of artistic expression. In 2003 he founded his own workshop in St Andrä. His work has been exhibited in numerous group and solo shows at home and abroad since 2004.
The Copper workshop is part of the workshop series savoir–vivre, which is conceived in parallel to the ar/ge kunst exhibition programme. The title savoir-vivre is based on a re-reading of the terms savoir and pouvoir in the work of Gayatri Spivak, co-founder of postcolonial theory, where knowledge (savoir) is not only linked to power but also to the condition of being able to (pouvoir). This combination of verbs turns the institution into a public space of negotiation and agency where an exploration of different forms of skills and competences produces collective knowledge.

I gioielli in argento dell’attuale mostra Silver Rights all’ar/ge kunst sono il risultato di una stretta collaborazione tra Mauro Millán, argentiere e attivista Mapuche, e l’artista italiana Elena Mazzi. Basandosi sulla sua ricerca in Pantagonia, un territorio che da anni è al centro di lotte, rivendicazioni e recuperi da parte del popolo indigeno Mapuche, l’artista approfondisce lo stretto legame tra la comunità indigena e la terra (mapu). Una parte importante della cultura materiale dei Mapuche è la gioielleria fatta con argento locale.
Questa stretta connessione tra la materia prima e il proprio essere è anche palpabile nel lavoro del fabbro Laurenz Stockner di Bressanone. Da quasi vent’anni Stockner lavora con il rame di cemententazione, una sostanza terrosa e scura che usa come materia prima per le sue ciotole di rame, e che proviene dalla miniera dismessa di Predoi.
Dopo aver visitato la mostra Silver Rights con le curatrici del Public Program, Laurenz Stockner inviterá le partecipanti e i partecipanti a prendere parte in un affascinante dialogo con la materia rame, dall’origine alla forma in un costante scambio con l’acqua e il fuoco: fusione, pulizia, forgiatura, galleggiamento.
Il Workshop Rame fa parte della serie di workshop savoir-vivre concepiti parallelamente al programma espositivo di ar/ge kunst. Il titolo savoir-vivre è una rilettura dei concetti di savoir/pouvoir come concepiti da Gayatri Spivak, una delle figure fondatrici del pensiero femminista post-coloniale; dove sapere non è più esclusivamente connesso a un’idea di potere ma anche all’ “essere in grado di” (being able to / pouvoir). Attraverso questa combinazione di verbi, l’istituzione è considerata uno spazio pubblico di azione, dove l’esplorazione di diverse abilità e competenze permette la produzione di un sapere collettivo.
Laurenz Stockner, nato nel 1971 a Bressanone, è un fabbro artistico. Fabbro di formazione, ha studiato oreficeria a Firenze e successivamente ha scoperto la fabbrizzazione artistica come forma di espressione per sé stesso. Nel 2003 ha fondato il suo laboratorio a St Andrä. Dal 2004 ha partecipato a numerose mostre personali e collettive in patria e all’estero.
