BAU, ein Institut für zeitgenössische Kunst und Ökologie mit Sitz in den Alpen (Südtirol / Alto Adige, Norditalien), lädt Künstler:innen und Forscher:innen aus Ländern, die am Creative Europe-Programm teilnehmen, ein, sich für das BAU Residenzprogramm 2026 im Rahmen des Projekts Pastoral Twilight zu bewerben, das in Zusammenarbeit mit den Organisationen ARE: Woods (Czechia) and Inland (Spain) organisiert wird.
Die Residenz bezieht sich auf die spezifische ländliche Landschaft Südtirols, der Region, in der die Organisation ansässig ist. Thematisch wird sie mit pflanzlichem Wissen an der Schnittstelle von Kunst, Bildung und mehr-als-menschlicher Solidarität in Bergregionen verknüpft sein.
Wie können wir den Wald nicht nur als Ressource, sondern als Werkzeugkasten für das Überleben wahrnehmen – eine multiszpese Schule, die uns Verbindung, Interdependenz und gegenseitige Hilfe lehrt?
Ein einmonatiger Aufenthalt wird eine:n internationale:n Künstler:in oder ein Künstlerkollektiv aufnehmen, um das Ökosystem der lokalen Berghänge und Wälder in einem kleinen Weiler auf 1350 Metern Höhe zu erkunden. Der Weiler liegt eingebettet in einem Wald, dessen Holz einst die Hauptressource für seine ersten Bewohner:innen war.
Der Residenzaufenthalt wird im Juni / Juli 2026 in Südtirol / Alto Adige stattfinden und sich auf bis zu drei Wochen im Weiler und den Rest der Zeit für Recherchen im Tal aufteilen.
WEN WIR SUCHEN
Die Auswahlkriterien richten sich an eine:n Künstler:in oder ein Künstlerkollektiv, das an der Schnittstelle von Kunst und Ökologie arbeitet und großes Interesse an Forschung, Feldarbeit und der Entwicklung einer ortsspezifischen Intervention und/oder eines öffentlichen Programms in enger Zusammenarbeit mit dem Kurator:innenteam von BAU hat.
Wir ermutigen insbesondere Künstler:innen und Forscher:innen aus der Ukraine zur Bewerbung.
WAS WIR BIETEN
Der Künstler oder das Künstlerkollektiv erhält ein monatliches Stipendium, und die Reisekosten sowohl für die Anreise als auch für die Fortbewegung in der Region sowie die Unterkunft werden übernommen.
Die Unterbringung erfolgt in einer Wohnung mit Schlafzimmer (inkl. Bettwäsche), voll ausgestatteter Küche und Bad (Handtücher etc.).
Ein zusätzliches Budget wird für die Durchführung von Veranstaltungen und Präsentationen während des Aufenthalts bereitgestellt, und der Stipendiat wird zur Teilnahme am Waldsymposium eingeladen, das Ende Juli 2026 im Orlické-Gebirge (Tschechien) stattfindet.

Open Call for Pastoral Twilight Residency Programme – BAU, Italy, 2026
BAU, an institute for contemporary art and ecology based in the Alps (Südtirol / Alto Adige, Northern Italy), invites artists and researchers from countries participating in the Creative Europe programme to apply for the 2026 BAU residency programme as part of the Pastoral Twilight project which is organised in collaboration with the organisations ARE: Woods (Czechia) and Inland (Spain).
The residency will relate to the specific rural landscape of South Tyrol, the region where the organisation is situated. Thematically, it will be linked to vegetal knowledge at the intersection of art, education and more-than-human solidarity in mountain areas.
How can we perceive the forest not merely as a resource, but as a toolbox for survival — a multispecies school that teaches us connection, interdependence, and mutual aid?
A month-long residency will host an international artist or artist collective to explore the ecosystem of the local mountain slopes and forest in a small hamlet 1350 meters above sea level. The hamlet is nestled in a forest, whose wood was once the primary resource for its first inhabitants.
The residency stay will take place at Südtirol / Alto Adige in June / July 2026 and will be split between a stay of up to 3 weeks in the hamlet and the rest of the time will be dedicated to research in the valley.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
The criteria for selecting the resident artist or artist collective working on the intersection of art and ecology with a strong interest in engaging in research, field explorations and the development of a site specific intervention and or public program in close collaboration with the curatorial team of BAU.
We encourage artists/researchers from Ukraine to apply.
WHAT WE PROVIDE
The artist or artist collective will receive a monthly stipend, and travel costs both to get to the region and to travel around as well as accommodation will be covered.
Accommodation is provided in an apartment including a bedroom (incl. linen), fully equipped kitchen, bathroom (towels etc.)
An additional budget will be provided for the production of events and presentations during the residency and the resident will be invited to participate at the Forest Symposium taking place in the Orlické Mountains (Czechia) at the end of July 2026.

BAU, un istituto per l’arte contemporanea e l’ecologia con sede nelle Alpi (Südtirol / Alto Adige, Italia settentrionale), invita artistə e ricercatorə provenienti dai paesi che partecipano al programma Europa Creativa a candidarsi per il programma di residenza BAU 2026, parte del progetto Pastoral Twilight, organizzato in collaborazione con le organizzazioni ARE: Woods (Cechia) e Inland (Spagna).
La residenza sarà incentrata sul paesaggio rurale specifico dell’Alto Adige, la regione in cui ha sede l’organizzazione. Tematicamente, sarà collegata al sapere vegetale all’intersezione tra arte, educazione e solidarietà più-che-umana nelle aree montane.
Come possiamo percepire la foresta non solo come una risorsa, ma come una cassetta degli attrezzi per la sopravvivenza — una scuola multispecie che ci insegna connessione, interdipendenza e mutuo aiuto?
Una residenza della durata di un mese ospiterà unə artistə o collettivo artistico internazionale per esplorare l’ecosistema dei pendii montani e delle foreste locali in un piccolo borgo situato a 1350 metri di altitudine. Il borgo è immerso in una foresta, il cui legname era un tempo la principale risorsa per i suoi primi abitanti.
Il soggiorno della residenza si svolgerà in Alto Adige nei mesi di giugno/luglio 2026 e sarà suddiviso tra una permanenza fino a 3 settimane nel borgo e il resto del tempo dedicato alla ricerca nella valle.
CHI CERCHIAMO
Cerchiamo unə artista o collettivo artistico che lavori all’intersezione tra arte ed ecologia, con un forte interesse per la ricerca, l’esplorazione sul campo e lo sviluppo di un intervento site-specific e/o programma pubblico in stretta collaborazione con il team curatoriale di BAU.
Incoraggiamo in particolare la candidatura di artistə/ricercatorə provenienti dall’Ucraina.
COSA OFFRIAMO
L’artista o il collettivo di artisti riceverà uno stipendio mensile, le spese di viaggio per raggiungere la regione e per spostarsi e l’alloggio saranno coperti.
L’alloggio è previsto in un appartamento con camera da letto (biancheria inclusa), cucina completamente attrezzata, bagno (asciugamani, ecc.).
Un budget aggiuntivo sarà messo a disposizione per la produzione di eventi e presentazioni durante la residenza e il residente sarà invitato a partecipare al Simposio sulla foresta che si terrà nei Monti Orlické (Cechia) alla fine di luglio 2026.
