BAU lädt in Zusammenarbeit mit der Freien Universität Bozen, Fakultät für Design, das Design Studio Atelier NL (Nadine Sterk, Lonny van Ryswyck) ein, seine regional verwurzelten und sozial engagierten Projekte vorzustellen. In seinen Arbeiten versteht Atelier NL Design nicht als Instrument, um reine Objekte zu produzieren, sondern vielmehr als eine Methode, um verborgene Systeme der uns umgebenden Landschaft von Informationen aufzudecken.
Der Vortrag To See a World in a Grain of Sand (Die Welt in einem Sandkorn betrachten) beschäftigt sich mit hoch aktuellen Fragestellungen: Was können uns Rohmaterialien über einen Ort lehren? Inwiefern hilft uns das Bewusstsein ihres Ursprungs, bedachter mit ihnen umzugehen? Kann eine tiefere Bindung zu Materialien die Herangehensweise des Menschen an die Umwelt als Ganzes verbessern?
In ihrem aktuellen Projekt To See a World in a Grain of Sand hat Atelier NL die Weltgemeinschaft eingeladen, mit Sand gefüllte Flaschen an sie zu schicken. So konnten über 300 Sand Proben — es handelt sich um das Rohmaterial, aus dem auch Glas produziert wird — gesammelt und damit das Atelier in eine Welt-Glas-Karte verwandelt werden. Als Teil des Projektes Polderproject hat Atelier NL Erde von über 2000 Feldern in den Niederlanden gesammelt, um daraus Fliesen und Keramikgeschirr herzustellen.

BAU, in collaboration with the Free University of Bolzano, Faculty of Design, invites Dutch design studio Atelier NL (Nadine Sterk, Lonny van Ryswyck) to discuss their locally established and socially engaged projects. Their practice explores design not merely as a vehicle to produce objects but also as a method to reveal systems of information within our surroundings.
The lecture To See a World in a Grain of Sand addresses questions such as: What can raw materials teach us about a place? Does familiarity with our origins help us to engage with it more wisely? Can a deeper relationship with materials improve humanities approach to the environment as a whole?
In their last project To See a World in a Grain of Sand Atelier NL invited communities across the globe to send them bottles full of sand. They collected over 300 samples of sand — the raw material from which glass is produced — and in doing so transformed their studio into a world map made of sand. In the Polderproject they collected soil from over 2000 farms in the Netherlands to create ceramic tableware.

BAU, in collaborazione con la facoltà di design della Libera Università di Bolzano, ospita lo studio di design olandese Atelier NL (Nadine Sterk, Lonny van Ryswyck) per la presentazione dei suoi progetti improntati da un forte collegamento territoriale e da impegno sociale. La pratica di Atelier NL concepisce il design non tanto come uno strumento per la mera produzione di oggetti, ma piuttosto come un metodo per svelare schemi nascosti nel contesto di informazione in cui ci ritroviamo.
La conferenza To See a World in a Grain of Sand (Per vedere un mondo in un granello di sabbia) affronta quesiti pertinenti: Cosa possono insegnarci le materie prime su un luogo? In che modo la familiarità con le loro origini ci aiuta a usarli in modo più rispettoso? Un rapporto più profondo con i materiali può migliorare l’approccio dell’uomo nei confronti dell’ambiente?
Nel suo attuale progetto To See a World in a Grain of Sand Atelier NL ha invitato la comunità globale a recapitare bottiglie riempite di sabbia. Sono così stati raccolti oltre 300 campioni di sabbia — materia prima da cui viene prodotto il vetro — e l’Atelier si è trasformato in una mappa del mondo di vetro. Nell’ambito del suo Polderproject Atelier NL ha raccolto terra da oltre 2000 campi agricoli nei Paesi Bassi, per produrre piastrelle e stoviglie in ceramica.
