Der Fokus von BAU liegt auf Kunstprojekten, bei denen zeitgenössische Kunst auf Fragen unserer Gegenwart reagiert, Natur und Kultur verbunden gedacht werden und der Mensch mit seiner Umgebung in einem ökologischen Kreislauf verstanden wird.
Nach der Gründung 2015 durch die Kuratorinnen Filipa Ramos, Simone Mair und Lisa Mazza liegt die künstlerische Leitung seit 2017 alleine bei Simone Mair und Lisa Mazza.
Die Tätigkeit von BAU konzentriert sich auf drei Bereiche: BAU Residency, BAU Alliances, BAU Agency.
Im Rahmen der BAU Residency, die seit Gründung ausgeführt werden, werden ausgewählte internationale Künstler*innen und Kollektive eingeladen, in Kooperation mit lokalen Partnern und in Auseinandersetzung mit der spezifischen Situation des ländlichen Raumes in Südtirol Projekte zu konzipieren und umzusetzen. Die Arbeitsweise von BAU zielt dabei immer auf den respektvollen, gleichberechtigten Wissensaustausch auf Augenhöhe.
Seit 2019 hat BAU einen weiteren Baustein im Tätigkeitsspektrum hinzugefügt: BAU Alliances ist eine projektbezogene Partnerschaft mit kulturellen Institutionen, wo Ressourcen, Wissen und Netzwerke gemeinsam für die Realisierung von Projekten eingesetzt werden.
Als drittes Standbein wurde BAU Agency als eine Plattform für Dienstleistungen geschaffen, die sich ebenso an kulturelle Institutionen, den Bildungssektor wie an private Unternehmen richtet. Ziel dieser Angebote ist die Durchführung transdisziplinärer Kunstprojekte, in deren Rahmen internationale zeitgenössische Kunstformen mit lokalem Wissen, Menschen, Dingen in Dialog treten.
BAU ist in ständiger Bewegung und mit jedem Projekt werden neue Netzwerke und Verbindungen zwischen internationalen Künstler:innen und lokalen Expert:innen geschaffen, die zu dynamischen Konstellationen in Südtirols Infrastruktur und Landschaft führen. In unserer vielfältigen Rolle als Kuratorinnen, Kulturproduzentinnen und Vermittlerinnen ermöglichen wir eine künstlerische Produktion, die eine strikte Trennung zwischen dem Lokalen und dem Internationalen zu überwinden sucht und stattdessen mit Formen der Zusammenkunft experimentiert, in denen die Landschaft, das Menschliche und das mehr-als-menschliche wichtige Quellen des Wissens sind.
BAU ist Teil der Rural Common Assembly, einem „Network in Progress“ und einer iterativen Plattform, einem Labor und einem Think Tank für translokale Vernetzung und Lernen im gesamten Alpenraum.
BAU ist Partner des Regionalnetzwerks Südtirol/Südtirol von Kultur.Forscher.

BAU deals with contemporary art projects that respond to questions of the present, conceiving of nature and culture together and regarding the human with its environment as part of an ecological cycle.
BAU was founded by curators Filipa Ramos, Simone Mair and Lisa Mazza in 2015. Sole responsibility for artistic direction has been with Simone Mair and Lisa Mazza since 2017.
Our activities are concentrated in three areas: BAU Residency, BAU Alliances and BAU Agency.
The BAU Residency programme has been running since BAU was founded in 2015, inviting selected artists and collectives to design projects which respond to the specific situation of the rural Südtirol – Alto Adige and to implement them in collaboration with our local partners. The BAU approach always aims to facilitate respectful sharing of knowledge among equals.
In 2019 BAU added a further segment to its spectrum of activities: BAU Alliances are project-specific partnerships with cultural institutions where resources, knowledge and networks are shared with the common purpose of realising projects.
The third mainstay of our activities is BAU Agency, a platform for the provision of services to cultural institutions, the education sector and private enterprise. The purpose of these services is to facilitate the implementation of transdisciplinary art projects where international contemporary artforms enter into dialogue with local people, knowledge and things.
BAU is constantly in flux, expanding its network with each new project. It is an assemblage of international artists and local experts who forge temporary constellations within the rich infrastructure and landscape of Südtirol / Alto Adige province. In our multiple roles of curator, cultural producer and mediator, we facilitate artistic production that strives to overcome a strict divide between the local and the international, experimenting instead with forms of gathering in which the landscape, the human and the more-than-human are important sources of knowledge.
BAU is part of the Rural Common Assembly, a “network-in-the-making” and iterative platform, laboratory and think tank for trans-local networking and learning across the Alpine region.

BAU sviluppa progetti di arte contemporanea che rispondono alle questioni cruciali del nostro tempo. Superando la distinzione tra natura e cultura, adotta un pensiero ecologico che considera l’uomo nel suo ambiente ed entrambi come elementi di unico ciclo.
Dopo la fondazione nel 2015 da parte delle curatrici Filipa Ramos, Simone Mair e Lisa Mazza, dal 2017 la direzione artistica è gestita dalle sole Simone Mair e Lisa Mazza.
Le attività di BAU si concentrano in tre aree: BAU Residency, BAU Alliances, BAU Agency.
Nell’ambito di BAU Residency, realizzata fin dalla sua fondazione, artisti e collettivi internazionali sono selezionati e invitati a progettare e a realizzare progetti in collaborazione con partner locali, confrontandosi con la situazione specifica delle aree rurali dell’Alto Adige. BAU lavora costantemente sviluppando uno scambio di conoscenze alla pari, equo e rispettoso, con i soggetti coinvolti.
Dal 2019 Bau ha aggiunto un’altra componente allo spettro delle sue attività: BAU Alliances è una partnership con istituzioni culturali su progetti specifici, in cui risorse, saperi e reti di conoscenze vengono condivise per la loro realizzazione.
Il terzo pilastro è la BAU Agency, una piattaforma per servizi rivolti non solo a istituzioni culturali e al settore della formazione, ma anche ad aziende private. L’obiettivo di questi servizi è di realizzare progetti transdisciplinari, in cui forme d’arte contemporanea internazionale possano entrare in dialogo con i saperi locali, le persone e i luoghi.
BAU è costantemente in flusso e amplia la sua rete con ogni nuovo progetto. Si tratta di un gruppo di artisti internazionali ed esperti locali che creano costellazioni temporanee all’interno delle ricche infrastrutture e del paesaggio della provincia del Südtirol/Alto Adige. Nei nostri molteplici ruoli di curatrici, produttrici culturali e mediatrici, facilitiamo una produzione artistica che cerca di superare la rigida divisione tra la dimensione locale e quella internazionale, sperimentando invece forme di aggregazione in cui il paesaggio, l’umano e il “ more-than-human” ( il “più che umano” del postumanesimo) sono importanti fonti di sapere.
BAU fa parte della Rural Common Assembly, una “rete in divenire” e una piattaforma iterativa, laboratorio e serbatoio d’idee per il networking translocale e l’apprendimento in tutta la regione alpina.
